Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola, opens up on His Decision To Return To School

Famous  Nollywood actor Odunlade Adekola is a student of University of Lagos who has been described as down to earth by his fellow students. The actor in a recent interview with Punch explained his decision to return to school and why he won’t relocate from his hometown Abeokuta.

What influenced your decision to go back to school?

In this life, I will continue to read and acquire knowledge till I die. It feels good to be famous and popular but education is the greatest thing. My fame is not as valuable as my education. The more you read, the more you learn about new things and broaden your horizon. The more you walk with learned people the higher your chances of increasing your intellectual quotient. I cannot say that because I am popular and I would relent in my efforts of acquiring knowledge, no. I have to package myself and be better than I am.

But did something happen to influence your decision to go back to school?

To be sincere, nothing happened and nobody advised me to go back to school. The truth is that it is difficult to convince popular artistes to go back to school because of their celebrity status. But for me, it was something I had in mind and I am glad that I am accomplishing it. Education for me is a mission I have made up my mind to pursue to the highest level.

As a big boy in Nollywood, why do you prefer to live in Abeokuta instead of Lagos that is known as the entertainment headquarters?

I am comfortable in Abeokuta and there are a lot of beautiful and serene places here. All my family members are in Abeokuta. I was not brought up in Lagos so I cannot move to Lekki or Ajah. Living in Lagos does not mean that one is rich or successful. Neither does it mean that Lagos is paradise. The mentality of everybody is different, I am in Abeokuta and I would continue to be here. I am not saying that I cannot build a house in Lagos but presently, I am in Abeokuta and I have not seen what would make me relocate from where I am. This is where I was before everybody in Lagos knew me, so why would I leave Abeokuta when everybody now know me?

Star boy Wizkid over the last couple of years has been spotted with a lot of international acts from Kendrick Lamar to Chris Brown, Akon etc. He also spoke about being in the studio with barbados singer, Rihanna.

Wizkid took to his twitter page to share his excitement as he said he has wrapped up works for his first international album which is ready to drop and features sounds from all around the world. And has recorded with A-list singers from around the world.

I am waiting in anticipation for the big announcement on when the album drops.

Governor Mimiko’s aide resigns

The senior special assistant to Ondo State governor on parliamentary affairs, Mr Samuel Pelemo has resigned from the state cabinet. Mr Pelemo who was a former member of labour party and a PDP chieftain represented Akoko south east constituency between 2007 and 2011 in the state house of assembly. 

His resignation was made public in a telephone interview with radio Nigeria. Mr Pelemo who confirmed this, said the reason for his action was due to the political situation in the state and the country in general.

Jackie Chan's son gets 6 months jail and fine on drug charges

BEIJING: The son of kung fu star Jackie Chan went on trial on drug related charges in Beijing on Friday (Jan 9), the Dongcheng District People's Court said, accused of providing a venue for others to use drugs.

According to CCTV, Jaycee was sentenced to 6 months in jail and fined 2,000 yuan (US$322) after he pleaded guilty to all charges. The court said Jaycee Chan received a lighter sentence because he gave himself up and gave information to the authorities on other criminal activities.

“I broke the law and should be punished. I hurt a lot of people. When I go back into society, I will definitely not do it again. I have been punished but that doesn’t mean I have been forgiven. I hope to use my actions to get everyone’s forgiveness,” Jaycee was quoted as saying during the hearing.

As Jaycee has been in detention since Aug 14, he is expected to be released sometime in the middle of February, according to Chinese media.

“I called Big Brother (Jackie Chan) and Sister Jiao (Chan’s mother Lin Feng Jiao) to inform them of the outcome. His family respects the court’s decision, and hopes Jaycee has learnt his lesson and truly changes for the better,” Jaycee Chan’s manager told Chinese media, pointing out that the management agency does not intend to lodge an appeal.

Jaycee, who like his father has worked as an actor and singer, was detained in August last year after police said they found 100g of marijuana in his Beijing home. Authorities outlined the charges against the younger Chan last month.

Jaycee and Ko Chen-tung, a Taiwanese actor also known as Kai Ko, both tested positive for marijuana according to state media, and Kai made tearful televised confessions.

Lagos Traditional Ruler Assaults Wife Over Phone Call (Battered Wife Pictured)

A Lagos traditional ruler, Baale Abeeb Lawal, who heads Ikolalumo in Meiran/Ajasa command area Lagos state, has brutally assaulted his wife over a phone conversation on New Year day. It was said that he gave his wife a signal to end a phone conversation she was currently on, but she thought he asked her to lower her voice, so she did.


The baale who thought she purposely disobeyed him pounded on her severally and hit her with a said heavy chair he picked.still Not satisfied, he broke a bottle and stabbed her at the back. When the blood flow from her body won’t stop gushing out, she fainted and was then rushed to a private hospital by neighbours who had gathered watching the drama. Sadly in all, the woman was half Unclad in the whole fracas with her bosoms in glaring eyes.

Bachelorette" stars Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray have called off their engagement ... their rep tells TMZ.

It's pretty weird and pretty sudden. Three days ago they were on the red carpet for the Season 19 premiere of "The Bachelor." Chris Harrison asked them, "So when's the wedding?" He said there were no immediate plans as Andi rubbed his back.

The former couple got engaged after appearing on the show last year.

Andi and Josh, through the rep, tell TMZ, "After several months of being engaged and working on our relationship, we have decided that it's best for both of us to go our separate ways. We are very sad that it has come to this point, but this is what's best for both of us individually."
