President Jonathan needs our help to leave office with dignity – Lagbaja

Popular Nigerian ‘masked-singer’ Lagbaja, has said that he is ready to exercise his voting rights. Lagbaja disclosed recently that he finally obtained his Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), which is needed by electorates to cast their votes. He also said that some forces may have pushed President Goodluck Jonathan to seek re-election, after he had allegedly promised to run for a single term of four years in 2011. 

Lagbaja further added that the President needs help because ‘he knows that he cannot do this job’. In his own words, “he (Jonathan) really wants to leave now, he does not want a second term, but he cannot say that publicly. He is a hostage of the people pushing him because of them, he cannot simply walk away. So, he has to play along by campaigning for re-election. He really needs your help so that he can leave with dignity, help him by voting him out. Vote Buhari/Osinbajo on February 14.”

China has detained a Canadian man on suspicion of stealing and prying into state secrets, and released his wife, also a Canadian, from custody on bail after holding the couple without charge for months, China’s foreign ministry said on Thursday.

The decision to detain Kevin Garratt, who ran a Christian coffee shop with his wife, paves the way for his formal arrest and possible prosecution in a case that has strained ties between Canada and China.

Beijing is widening a crackdown on foreign Christian groups along its sensitive border with North Korea.

Foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Garratt had been formally detained on suspicion of the theft, citing the National Security Agency of Dandong, a city in the north-eastern province of Liaoning, where the Garratts had lived for years.

“The relevant Chinese authorities are dealing with the case in accordance with the law, and maintaining the legal rights and interests of both people in accordance with the law,” Hong told a regular news briefing.

Julia Garratt was released but barred from leaving mainland China for one year, the family said in a statement. Kevin Garratt has been moved to a “more formal detention centre at an unknown location”, the family added.

No formal charges had been filed and no evidence of misconduct was given to the family or their lawyer.

“The family continues to call upon the governments of Canada and the People’s Republic of China to resolve this matter involving diplomatic means with a sense of urgency,” the couple’s lawyer, James Zimmerman, said in a statement.

China’s state secrets law is notoriously broad, covering everything from industry data to the exact birth dates of state leaders. Information can also be labelled a state secret retroactively.

In severe cases, the theft of state secrets is punishable with life in prison or the death penalty.

The Garratts were first detained last August for suspected theft of military and intelligence information and for threatening national security.

The Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, said in November he had raised concerns about the case in a meeting with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping.

The Canadian embassy in Beijing referred questions to Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. The department could not be immediately reached for comment.

PDP steals N100 from every litre of kerosene – Oshiomhole

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday accused the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government of duping Nigerians by selling kerosene N150 per litre instead of N50.

Oshiomhole, who said this while receiving defectors from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress in Benin, the Edo State capital, also said that Nigerians had been suffering since the PDP assumed power 16 years ago.

This, he said, was because of the PDP’s dedication “to preserve the privileges of the few.”

Oshiomhole said the Federal Government had been doing this by not allowing the masses to enjoy the benefits of the natural resources bestowed on the country by God through shady subsidy deals on petroleum products.

The governor said, “The man who has a shop must close by 6 pm. If he operates beyond 6pm, he must put on a generator, and buy petrol or diesel. For 16 years, the PDP can’t give us light. But if they leave us in peace even in the dark, it will be bad enough but for them, that is not bad enough.”

“From Otuoke to Benin City, to Lagos, to Ekpoma, to Iyahmo, to Sokoto, kerosene is now between N150 and N160 per litre. For every N150 you spend in buying a litre of kerosene, the PDP steals N100 because in the books of the NNPC, they have it on records that kerosene is N50 per litre.”

Oshiomhole also commended the quality of the defectors, who he described as knowledgeable.

He said, “Today is not just the fact of the huge number in this hall but it is also about the quality of the brains that have now join us; and in a world that is knowledge-driven, it is only the party that can parade the best brains that can drive the sustainable change that Nigeria is currently battling with in order to bail our country from its present political quagmire.”

Kendra Sunderland, 19, became the talk of campus when she posted a video on PornHub that showed her stripping out of her top and touching herself for 31 minutes in the crowded Valley Library in Corvallis, Oregon.

Health tips on how to avoid kidney failure

1. Delaying going to a toilet Keeping your urine in your bladder for too long is a bad idea. A full bladder can cause bladder damage. The urine that stays in the bladder multiplies bacteria quickly. 2. Eating too much salt
You should eat no more than 5.8 grams of salt daily.

3. Eating too much meat
Too much protein in your diet is harmful for your kidneys. Protein digestion produces ammonia – a toxin that is very destructive to your kidneys. More meat equals more kidney damage.

4. Drinking too much caffeine
Caffeine is a component of many sodas and soft drinks. It raises your blood pressure and your kidneys start suffering. So you should cut down the amount of coke you drink daily.

5. Not drinking water
Our kidneys should be hydrated properly to perform their functions well. If we don’t drink enough, the toxins can start accumulating in the blood, as there isn’t enough fluid to drain them through the kidneys. Drink more than 10 glasses of water daily. There is an easy way to check if you are drinking enough water: look at the colour of your urine; the lighter the colour, the better.

6. Late treatment
Treat all your health problems properly and have your health checked regularly

Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 2-match ban for assaulting Edimar Fraga and Jose Angel Crespo during the La Liga match between Cordoba and Real Madrid on Saturday, January 24, 2015.

The LFP announced the ban today after referee Alejandro Hernandez who officiated and gave out red card to the football star, tendered a brief and simple report which reads: ‘In minute 83 the player, Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off for the following reason: Kicking his rival off the ball.’

It was Ronaldo’s 9th red card since starting his professional career and he will miss two Real Madrid home games against Real Sociedad and Sevilla.

Malaysia MH370 is officially declared an accident,Families to be compensated

After over 9 months of searching, the disappearance of Air Malaysia MH370 has officially been declared an accident with all on board presumed dead so families can be awarded compensation.

The Boeing 777 jet went missing on March 8 last year, carrying 239 passengers and crew shortly after taking off from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, bound for Beijing.

Despite months of searches, investigators have failed to find any trace of the aircraft and Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has now ruled that the disappearance accidental.DCA director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said:

 'We officially declare Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 an accident... and that all 239 of the passengers and crew onboard MH370 are presumed to have lost their lives. It will allow families of the passengers to obtain assistance through compensation,Both investigations are limited by the lack of physical evidence at this time, particularly the flight recorders,' Therefore, at this juncture, there is no evidence to substantiate any speculations as to the cause of the accident.'
