Saudi Arabia: at least 453 killed in stampede

More than 453 pilgrims were killed and over 719 injured in a crush at hajj on Thursday, the deadliest of such incident since 2006. The stampede began when the Hajj ritual of throwing stone at the devil was going on, in past years hundreds have being killed during the same ceremony report says.

October 1, Half of a Yellow Sun, 6 other Nigerian movies to screen at India’s Woodpecker Festival...

Kunle Afolayan’s October 1 and the screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s award winning novel, Half of a Yellow Sun have been named among 9 Nigerian movies to be showcased at the Woodpecker Film Festival (WFF) coming up in New Delhi, India next month. Other shortlisted Nollywood movies for the festival beginning on September 17, 2015 are Emem Isong’s Champagne, Knocking on Heaven’s Door, Brothers, Bedlam, Silent Tears, Doll House and Obi Emenloye’s Thy Will be Done. The movies will be showcased during the World Panorama session of the festival. In a statement made by the founding director of the WFF, Narender Yadav, he disclosed that the decision was made to bring an unforgettable experience to cinema lovers in the World’s 2nd most populous nation. ‘It’s for the first time that a serious attempt is being made to bring Nigerian cinema to the Indian audience. I am sure this is going to be an enriching experience for cinema lovers in India. ‘At the same time, these films will also attract (a) large number of Nigerian youths, who are in New Delhi either for their higher studies or for work. Overall, it’s going to be an exciting feature of our festival this year.’ ...

Kelly Osbourne will host the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) pre-show. The former ‘Fashion Police’ star will present from the red carpet outside Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater alongside Carly Aquilino, Nessa Diab, and Nora ‘Awkwafina’ Lum. They will be joined by Nick Jonas. Following the pre-show, ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer Miley Cyrus will take over to host the main show. The MTV VMAs pre-show airs on August 30, 2015 at 8pm, followed afterwards by the main ceremony....

Amber Rose is reportedly working on her own talk show, having already shot the pilot in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old model is ‘really excited’ about the possibility of leading a chat show and has already shot a pilot. A source said: ‘Amber’s working with a top production team, and they already shot the pilot in Los Angeles. She’s really excited. ‘She’ll definitely talk a lot about her own life. Producers are counting on her to just be herself! She’ll also help other people resolve their issues.’ And things are moving quick,with hopes that it will be on the air ‘soon’. The insider added: ‘They are looking to make a deal in the very near future.’ And before she finalises plans for a talk show, The 31-year-old model is working hard on the release of her book, ‘How To Be A Bad Bitch’....

I don’t mind performing in a club filled with gays, says DJ Jimmy Jatt

Popular Nigerian DJ Jimmy Jatt has said that he has no problems playing for gays or playing in a club filled with gays. He said he can do this because what people do in their private lives is non of his business. “Honestly, I don’t mind playing in a gay bar or performing in a show filled with gays. It is a free world, you know. Why should I bother about anybody’s sexual preferences or relationships? It’s not my business to bother about what they do with their bodies in private or to themselves. 

“For me, this is all about business. My job is to provide entertainment and to make people happy. I am neither gay nor bisexual. Everybody knows I am happily married with children. But, if by any means somebody comes to me with any funny intentions, that is when I will make them see the other side of me,” DJ Jimmy jatt told Punch.

Kiss Daniel voices his support for gay marriage…

Rising Nigerian singer Kiss Daniel has said he sees nothing wrong with gay marriage. Kiss Daniel’s approval is coming a week after same-sex marriage was legalized in the United States of America. Many Nigerians have condemned the Supreme Court of America for legalizing same-sex marriage. 


Kiss Daniel however says he sees nothing wrong in the legalization, arguing that in the end, ‘love always wins’. “Ok, so, g@y marriage is legalized in the U.S? Some are mad, some are indifferent, some are glad. Straight or G@y, what matter is we’ve got a heart that can love. Love is love and love always wins. Barrack Obama, peace” the ‘Woju’ crooner wrote on Instagram.
