Couple docked for killing their one-year-old son by severely punching him in the stomach

Source: RADAR.NG: December 28, 2014 A couple was arrested, charged and convicted of causing the death of their child after punching their young son in the stomach until he died, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said. Now, the parents of Birmingham, have been sentenced to serve 9 years in prison for causing or allowing the death of 21-month-old Levi Blu Cassin. 26-year-old Danielle Cassin of Frensham Close, Chelmsley Wood, and 31-year-old Marcus Piper, were found guilty following a four week trial at the Birmingham Crown Court. The toddler died at his home on Nightingale Avenue in Castle Bromwich. The child’s mother, Danielle Cassin, called an ambulance at 4:54 a.m., stating that her son was not breathing. Levi Blu Cassin was taken to a hospital, but despite efforts by paramedics to revive him, he was pronounced dead. A post mortem examination revealed that the toddler had suffered severe abdominal injuries, which had caused his death.

A police investigation into the death was launched, and both Cassin and Piper were arrested on the day of the boy’s death. They were charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child and child neglect. The two denied any wrongdoing, and maintained their innocence throughout the trial. The jury returned not guilty verdicts on the charges of murder and manslaughter against the two. However, the jury found both guilty of causing or allowing the child’s death. “He should have had a full life ahead of him, but it was taken away by his parents who failed to provide the necessary care or a safe environment. They subjected him to a violent attack and ultimately failed to seek medical attention. Throughout the investigation and trial, they have continued to conceal the truth and evidence gathered over 18 months by a dedicated team of investigators,” prosecutors said. (WWWN)
