Drama: We’re responsible for your successes – PDP tells Amaechi, Kwankwaso, others

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has said all the former governors of the party who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, are executing the manifesto of their old party. According to him, this was responsible for the successes they recorded in their respective states. The governors are Rotimi Amaechi(Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwanso(Kano), Aliyu Wamakko(Sokoto), Abdulfatah Ahmedi(Kwara) and others. Mu’azu made this known in a statement he issued on Thursday in Abuja. He said, “For the better part of the eight or four years they governed Rivers, Sokoto, Kano, Adamawa and Kwara, they executed PDP manifesto before they defected to join the All Progressive Congress where they have continued to execute PDP blue print for success. “Nigerians should ask Governor Amechi if he has executed any other manifesto other than those of the PDP even after he left the party. “Ask Governor Kwankwaso whether his infrastructural successes were not planned by PDP government that he headed in Kano state? Has Sokoto’s Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko done any work that was not originated by the PDP government through which he came to power?” On the 2015 election, Mu’azu said APC was busy working on propaganda instead of working on how to win the polls. He also said the PDP has done a lot for President Goodluck Jonathan to be re-elected in 2015. “Our nearest rivals are not only spinning out of control but have succeeded in elevating propaganda into an art form to try and win at all cost. “All the PDP has to do is state the facts of our achievements on the ground over and over as they stand because Nigerian voters are not dumb or silly.

“They know that propaganda don’t win you votes, they only complicate matters because sooner rather than later, their propaganda and lies will fall flat on their faces. “The Nigerian electorate know that leopards don’t change their skin overnight. The change Nigerians need is a change in their standard of living, transformation of the basic infrastructure to better roads, better bridges, and better education standard, better management of the economy as well as better health infrastructure which make us a better country and not change to a political party just to achieve their personal desires,” Mu’azu said. He added that APC politicians who are always point an accusing finger at the PDP for failing to make a difference in the governance of Nigeria over the past 15 years must know that they share more of the blame for the so called ‘incompetence and cluelessness’. The PDP chairman said, “This is because as they point one finger at the PDP, four of their fingers are pointing back at their APC. “How can the gang of five governors who left the PDP in 2013 extricate themselves from those accusations when they were all part of the decision making organs of the party? “Let the APC continue their folly as Nigerians are no fools. We all know their empty game plan, the result which will dawn on them after Nigerians cast their votes on February 14, 2015. “They will then turn around to say that PDP has massively rigged the election. They will fail in their bid to scuttle PDP’s bid for a historic fourth presidential election victory.”

Later that day, proud dad Baltierra tweeted, "OMG guys, my daughter is BEAUTIFUL! Can't wait for you guys to see her! Born on 1/01/15 at 3:15 #StillCantBelieveIt #ShesPerfect."
Here is a pic of the proud mum:

An Open Letter to My Ex-Wife

I never imagined you and I, out of all the people in this world, would go through something so devastating as we did.
Throughout the years, we created the most beautiful memories. We climbed all the way to the top together, only to slip and fall as soon as we got there. And though I may have contributed to that fall, I tried so hard to hold on to you.
My heart shattered into a million pieces. Eventually, I realized I couldn't save us.
I couldn't undo what had been done, and I let you go to find your true happiness.
All I ever wanted was my own family. Every day, I dreamed of falling in love with a woman, getting married, buying a beautiful home and one day bringing our own little bundle of joy into the world.
I guess it goes without saying that you made all of that feel real for me; you helped make most of those dreams come true. I wanted nothing more than to be the best husband, a romantic lover, the most selfless provider, and one day, the world's best dad.
Our relationship wasn't perfect, but I loved you so much.
All those things I wanted to be, I couldn't imagine with anyone but you.
Our life together -- it was like Disney World. We ran carefree in this theme park we call life. Holding each others' hands, we laughed, cried, loved, and we were in awe of everything we experienced. We were children with dreams, and together, we thought about the day when all of ours would come true.
Eventually, though, those roller coasters stopped.
The music died down, the lights shut off, and our magical journey came to an abrupt halt.
You were gone.
Suddenly, everything that was so familiar about life felt so foreign. I was lost without you. All I had left were my memories and dreams of us that I knew would never come true.
There are a few things that I never had the opportunity to tell you ...
Every time I called you, I looked forward to hearing you answer the phone. You would say "hey" in this voice that sound so innocent and so loving. And it never changed. It always reminded me of the beginning of our relationship and all of the reasons I fell in love with you. Who would have thought something so simple could be so powerful? It's what made you unique.
Remember all the times you yelled at me when I was looking at you? You'd ask me why, and I would either laugh or get angry because you had this "sass" about you. You know what? I looked at you because I thought you were the most beautiful thing in the world. I didn't care what you were wearing -- whether you had makeup on. I'd look at you and get lost in your laugh and your smile. Whatever flaws you believed you had, I loved -- how you'd look in the mirror and always suck in your stomach; how you always analyzed every picture we took together and made me delete them, nine times out of 10; how you'd pace around on the phone when you were nervous. Or how about how you hated to be on video? I noticed everything. But I loved it.
How about Valentine's Day in Atlantic City, when we arrived at the hotel and got the keys to our suite, only to find out it was disgusting. You wouldn't even sit on the bed! We both laughed until we got our room switched. Once we got there, you started jumping up and down like a maniac (I have it on video), and then eventually, you crashed and took a nap, like you always did. I sat there on that cloudy afternoon, lights off in the room, and just watched you sleep. I kept thinking about getting to marry you one day and having the opportunity to enjoy that moment over and over again. You looked so peaceful, and it reminded me of the responsibility I had to protect you, always.
Then there was that warm summer afternoon in June. The commute home from work that day was the most exciting drive of my life (and the longest, too). I will never forget picking up the phone and calling you, asking you to get ready and meet me at the house so we could grab dinner. It was spontaneous, I know, and in hindsight, not very well-planned. I didn't care, though.
I wanted to ask you to spend the rest of your life with me, and I guess I just couldn't wait anymore.
Your ring had been sitting in my room for three weeks in its blue Tiffany box, wrapped with a white ribbon. Every time I looked at it, I would think back to that night in May 2004 when I first laid eyes on you.
I thought about us being kids, not having anything but each other. I thought about the dreams we shared, and how I was so ready to spend the rest of my life with you. You helped shaped me into the man I was becoming, and this was a representation of my love and appreciation for you.
I was so nervous walking onto that beach in Long Branch -- my hands were sweating, my heart racing. When I got down on one knee in the sand, I remember the look on your face. The sun was beating down, your hair was blowing in the wind. I could hear the waves crashing behind me. I'll never forget you putting your hands over your mouth, saying "YES!"
It was one of the happiest moments of my life. When I slipped that ring onto your finger, I was certain it would never come off.
That leaves me with our wedding day.
June 10, 2012, the greatest day of my life. I looked forward to that for 27 years, but I never imagined it to be as beautiful as it was.
I was in awe of everything -- the cameras, the flowers, the people, the church, the venue. Everything was beyond my wildest imagination, but nothing could compare to the excitement I felt about becoming your husband.
I couldn't wait to make you Mrs. D'Ambrosio.
Here we were, two teenagers who met on the Seaside boardwalk eight years prior, with no idea about life, love, and where it would take us. We finally created this day. We had built our lives, our careers, our home, and now it was time to build our family.
I stepped out to the altar and waited for you. My heart was filled with so many emotions, but I just wanted to hold your hand for the rest of my life.
When those doors opened, every dream, wish and prayer I ever had came marching right toward me, more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
You were my best friend. I wanted so much more for the both of us.
Sometimes, though, we have to accept the unexpected.
Our worlds need to fall apart, so we can put them back together the way they were meant to be.
There's nothing more important to me than your happiness, and knowing you have that means the world to me. Our lives took different paths, but that can never take away from the memories we shared.
As for me? I'm happy. I've found peace. I am busier than ever with work, I found a new passion with writing, and I've been rebuilding a life that was once in a million pieces. I still dream of having a family. I still dream of holding my own child. Of course, I still dream of falling in love and finding my true happiness.
I'm much of the same Anthony you knew, but so much different.
You see, too many people live with hate in this world. Those same people live with anger and fear.
I'm not one of those people.
I'm disappointed we never got to finish writing our happily ever after, but I'll never be angry. I'll never hate you, and I'll never be dishonest about my emotions. God gave me this amazing opportunity to love. It brought me to so many beautiful places, taught me so much about life and gave me memories I'll cherish forever. How can I ever be angry about that?
To your parents, sister, grandparents, aunt and uncle -- tell them I always loved them as if they were my own, and I'm sorry if I never lived up to their expectations. I knew how much they loved you. I knew what kind of man they wanted for you, and God knows, I did everything I could to make sure I was just that.
And finally, to you -- I'm sorry for anything I may have ever done to hurt you. More than anything, I wanted to spend forever with you by my side, and to one day add our own little peanut who would join us for the ride. Everything I did in my life was to ensure yours would be all you dreamed it to be. I wanted to give you the world.
Unfortunately, I fell short.
If I knew then what I know now, I would have held you tighter during our first dance and picked a song that never ended.
I'm not perfect, and I never want people to think that I am. I've made mistakes. I've done things I'm not proud to admit, and I've made decisions I wish I could take back. But I loved someone with every bone in my body, with every beat of my heart and every inch of my soul. It wasn't perfect, but I know for sure I loved with everything I had; I loved in such a way that your happiness was always mine. And I'm thankful for that.
I once told you I wish I could put into words how much I loved you and share it with the world; here's my best shot at that promise.
Losing you may have been the most painful experience of my life, but it made me stronger than ever. It somehow made life feel real.
While on paper I lost my wife, in reality I lost so much more.
I lost a piece of me that I will never get back.
Take good care of it.
All the best,

Concern as Japan's 2014 birth rate falls to record low

Japan's birth rate slumped to a record low in 2014, health ministry figures show, dropping to 1,001,000 newborns in 2014 - 9,000 fewer than in 2013.
The fall is the fourth in consecutive years and comes as the estimated number of deaths continues to rise, at just under 1.3 million last year.
Some estimates say that by 2050 the population could be as low as 97 million - 30 million lower than now.
Experts warn the impact of the decline will harm Japan in various ways.
A lowering of the number of people aged between 15 to 64 is predicted to lower potential growth and shrink Japan's GDP.

That in turn is expected to harm the pension system and other elements of social welfare. The impact in rural areas is predicted to be especially damaging, putting the very existence of some communities in danger.
Another decline in the number of children is inevitable as "the number of reproductive-age women is on the decline", an official at the health ministry was quoted by Kyodo News as saying.
Government figures in April revealed that Japan's population shrank for the third year running, with the elderly comprising 25% of the total for the first time.
The proportion of people aged 65 or over is predicted to reach nearly 40% of the population in 2060, the government has warned.
Various reasons have been cited for the population decline, including:
  • The rising cost of childbirth and child-raising
  • The increasing number of women in the workforce
  • The later average age of marriage
  • The increasing number of unmarried people
  • Changes in the housing environment and in social customs

RACE TO 2015: Audu Ogbe leads committee to raise N5bn for Buhari’s campaign from yams

Ex-PDP National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbe would on Jan. 4 inaugurate the sale of five million tubers of yam donated by farmers to raise N5 billion for Buhari/Osibajo presidential campaign. Mrs Felicia Yakzum, the Public Relations Officer of APC Micro Finance Cooperative Society Ltd, said in a statement on Thursday in Jos that the sales would commence at Mararaban Demshin in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau, NAN reports. She said that an APC organised New Year wrestling tournament and the “Job Opportunities for Osinbajo and Buhari Supporters (JOOBS)” would also be inaugurated.

Yakzum said Ogbe was behind the yam initiative and has been appointed chairman for the sales. The spokesperson said JOOBS on the other hand, would create opportunities to unemployed youths nationwide to be engaged meaningfully to enhance their lives. Yakzum said, “we have constituted a committee charged with the responsibility of creating job opportunities for youth supporters of the Muhammadu Buhari/ Prof Yemi Osinbajo ticket.” She said those targeted were secondary school leavers, retrenched workers, pensioners, physically challenged persons, and the internally displaced with valid voter card.

SAD: Florida man decapitates his mother

A Florida man is charged with first-degree murder after his mother was found decapitated outside their home on New Year's Eve.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Mario Gomez called 911 on Wednesday evening and told dispatchers that his brother Christian had killed their mother and cut off her head.
Deputies found Maria Suarez-Cassagne's body outside the Oldsmar home, near some garbage cans.
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Thursday that Gomez had planned his mother's murder for two days.
Gomez was upset with his mother because she wanted him to move boxes around the house, and he was jealous of the attention Suarez-Cassagne paid to his brother, Gualtieri said.
The 23-year-old attacked his mother in the garage with an ax, severing her head, Gualtieri said. Gomez then allegedly dragged his mother's remains from the garage to the garbage cans.
Gualtieri told reporters that the crime was one of the worst his department had ever seen.
Gomez then fled the scene, but he was arrested a few blocks away after another 911 call reported a suspicious person riding a bicycle in the area.
Gomez confessed to killing his mother, Gualtieri said.
Investigators recovered the ax. Mario Gomez, 27, was not injured.
According to the sheriff's office, Gomez had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and previously was held under the Baker Act. Gomez also had other arrests in Pinellas County for loitering and prowling, resisting an officer without violence and disorderly conduct.
Pinellas County jail records did not show whether Gomez had an attorney.

We are angry with Jonathan” – Igbo Groups

A coalition of South-East groups rose from a meeting in Enugu on Wednesday, accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of taking Ndigbo for a ride.
The groups, which met to review the political situation in the country as it affects the South-East and the 2015 elections, said they were yet to see genuine reasons why the zone should support President Jonathan for a second term.
This development is coming despite claims by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the South-East votes were exclusively for Jonathan, who the party said deserved re-election.
Those present at the meeting included representatives of the Igbo Leaders Council, Umuada Ala Igbo, Igbo Women Assembly, Igbo Students’ Association, Igbo Youth Movement, South-East Self Determination Coalition and Eastern Christian Council.
They rhetorically asked those clamouring for Jonathan’s re-election to explain why rail ways, which is one of the President’s major achievement was yet to work in the South-East.
They equally wondered why the President failed in his promise of according the Akanu Ibiam Airport the right international status.
Comrade Samuel Edeson, the coordinator of the South-East Self Determination Coalition, who spoke on behalf of the groups said, “Mr. President has failed to fulfill all the promises he made to the people of the South-East despite the block vote given to him by the people of the zone.
“He promised that by the first quarter of last year cargo will be landing here in the South-East from different parts of the world, but nothing has come out of it. Our people still pass through the rigours of traveling to Lagos to clear their goods.
“If we also look at the rail way, which is one sector this administration has given so much attention, no significant thing is happening in the South-East, unlike other zones where it is now an alternative means of transport.
“So, the South-East youths and Ndigbo in general are very angry with this administration; if nothing is done and quickly too, President Jonathan should not expect our votes in 2015. Let him not allow sycophants deceive him by making him feel that all is well”.
“We don’t see the reason to continue voting for someone who has no clear plan for the development of this zone”, he concluded.
Also in a remark, the President and Founder, Igbo Youth Movement, Evang. Eliot Ukoh, who arrived at the end of the meeting agreed with the resolutions taken by the groups.
He, however, urged the agitating groups to give President Jonathan a chance, noting that it would be wrong for the zone to withdraw its support from him without valid discussions.

Ukoh said “I got wind of the meeting and decided to be here, that’s why I am late; in as much as I am pleading with them to cool down, Mr. President should do the needful. It appears he is being held hostage by a cabal.

    ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT

Darren Sanders -- the head of security for the Baltimore Ravens -- is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore during a game ... TMZ Sports has learned.

We obtained the police report filed by a woman who claims she was working at the stadium on December 14th -- when the Ravens were playing the Browns -- and was asked to escort Sanders to another part of the building.

The woman claims while doing the escort, Sanders "hit and/or groped her buttocks more than once as they walked down the third level hallway."

The woman claims the abuse continued when they got to the 3rd floor lobby ... when he "pressed his body against her's and kissed her neck and attempted to force her to grab his penis."

The woman says she was able to walk away -- and immediately told 4 co-workers about the incident.

Cops investigated the situation and eventually charged Sanders with a 4th degree sexual offense. Investigators say at least one witness "observed part of the interaction" between Sanders and the woman.

Sanders lawyers are adamant -- Darren did nothing wrong. A hearing is set for Feb. 9th.

Sanders was famously involved with the Ray Rice investigation -- he had claimed he asked police and Revel Casino security for a copy of the elevator footage ... but failed to obtain it.

Appeal court quashes N47.1bn theft charge against Erastus Akingbola

The Court of Appeal in Lagos, on Wednesday, struck out a N47.1 billion theft charge against former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Erastus Akingbola. Akingbola was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Bayo Dada, General Manager of Probics Securities Ltd, before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja. They were charged on 22 counts bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false pretences. NAN recalls that the appellants had through their counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and Prof. Taiwo Osipitan (SAN), challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the charge preferred against them. The trial court judge, Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo, had, however, in a ruling delivered on May 2, 2014, dismissed their applications and held that it was competent to entertain the charges preferred against the appellants. The lower court had then assumed jurisdiction in the matter. Dissatisfied with the ruling of the court, the appellants had filed two separate appeals, urging the appellate court to set aside the decision of the lower court. The appellate court, in a unanimous decision on Wednesday, allowed the appeal on the grounds that the subject matter of the alleged offences related to banking operations and capital issues, which fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court. Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Amina Augie, held that the lower court judge took a narrow view of the issue, when it assumed jurisdiction on the case. Augie held that the lower court judge erred when he failed to take notice of the decision of the appellate court in the case of Okey Nwosu vs EFCC, even when it was brought to his notice. The judge noted that the appellate court had in Okey Nwosu’s case held that the Ikeja High Court, Lagos, where the charges were instituted against the defendants, had no jurisdiction over capital market-related issues.

Why we can’t overrun Boko Haram in Gwoza, Bama, others – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army said on Wednesday that the need to reduce collateral damage has delayed the recapture of some towns and villages seized by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
Olajide Laleye, the Director, Army Public Relations, gave the explanation while fielding questions at a news conference in Abuja.
“We are not interested in collateral damage,” Mr. Olajide, a Brigadier General, said. “The Nigeria Army is very careful about collateral damage. To that extent, our operations are carefully planned to make sure that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.
“If certain areas have not been recaptured, it is because the Nigerian army is giving such areas very careful plans, the plans are ongoing.
“At the right time, you will see the outcome; we will not tell you, of course, beforehand, of what we intend to do; but you will see the outcome,’’ Mr. Laleye said.
The Nigerian military lost several towns to Boko Haram in Borno and Adamawa States during weeks of sweeping takeover by the insurgent group.
Backed by local militias, the military recovered some key towns in Adamawa State, including Mubi and Hong.
Other local areas such as Michika remain under Boko Haram, while the militants also control large parts of Borno State, including Bama and Gwoza.
Mr. Laleye’s comments Wednesday were the first official explanations from the army why the insurgents have continued to control several towns despite the the military’s claim that it has the capacity to clear the insurgents from the northeast.
The comments also clearly refuted the claim by a presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, who said two weeks ago on television that government forces had since reclaimed Gwoza, Bama and other towns from Boko Haram.
According to Mr. Laleye, Nigerians will be pleased at the end of such operations that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.
He assured that law abiding Nigerians in those areas would be rescued from the insurgents, while those towns and villages would completely be freed from terrorism and insurgency.
Earlier, he said Gombi, Hong, Uba, Makera, Holma and Vimtim, all in Adamawa, had been recaptured, adding that the current military offensive would be sustained until the enemy was “completely defeated’’.
Mr. Laleye said new strategies had been introduced in the ongoing war after formations and units involved were evaluated, adding that this had impacted positively on the counter-insurgency operations in the North East.
He said all officers and men involved in the operations in the region would undergo counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency training before being deployed in the theatres of operation.
The army spokesman explained that this followed the directive of the Chief of Army Staff that all Divisional Headquarters should set up schools for counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and special operations training.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to restate its determination to bring this counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations to a speedy and decisive end.
“Equally, the Nigerian Army seizes this opportunity to reassure Nigerians of its preparedness to support relevant agencies in the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections,’’ he said.
On the ongoing court-martial of some officers, Mr. Laleye explained that it was necessary to enforce discipline in the armed forces and achieve success in the war against insurgency.
He said success achieved so far would not have been possible if the army did not take steps to remain a formidable fighting force through time tested procedures and enforcement of regulations.
“The judicial process that led to the convictions and acquittals (of some officers) followed international best practices in the military law and also conforms to relevant Nigerian laws.
“Let me state categorically that a General Court Martial has the status of the High Court and is backed by extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The General Court Martial is not a final authority. Its processes are not only subject to confirmation by the appropriate superior authority but also subject to appeal,’’ he said. (NAN)

Princewill Sued for N10bn for Parading as LP Governorship Candidate

The ambition of Prince Tonye Princewill to contest the 2015 governorship election in Rivers state on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) may be on the line as his kinsman, Prince Joseph Princewill, has asked the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt to stop him from parading himself as the gubernatorial candidate of the party.

The litigant has also asked the court to compel Princewill to pay him N10 billion as damages for surreptitiously claiming the party’s ticket through a proxy for the 2015 governorship elections against the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But Princewill has dismissed the suit as a non-issue, saying the litigant did not pay for the governorship form he claimed to have purchased from the party.

The litigant, Joseph, and Princewill come from the same town, Buguma, the headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
