Corrupt politicians will end up in Kirikiri when I become President – Buhari

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) has pledged that all corrupt politicians will face the full wrath of the law if he becomes Nigeria’s president.

Buhari disclosed this while speaking on Tuesday in Uyo at the APC rally and presentation of the party’s flag to Umana Umana, the Akwa Ibom governorship candidate.

Buhari also assured that all avenues through which money was being siphoned out of the country would be blocked.

“When we come into power, anyone who steals Nigerian money will end up in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons. We are going to make sure that Nigeria’s wealth belongs only to Nigerians,” Buhari said.

The former military Head of State, however, assured Nigerians that his government would create over three million jobs yearly to take care of the jobless youths, saying that the country would not have faced the economic downturn if the country had invested in agriculture.

Buhari wondered how Nigeria that used to export tin and columbite suddenly stopped producing and exporting these minerals due to maximum focus on oil.

On the power sector, Buhari stated that many industries had shut down operation because of epileptic power supply.

He noted that Nigerian producers were not able to compete in the international market because of huge cost of generating alternative power.

Speaking, Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, the Director General, Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, said he was ashamed to read on the pages of newspapers a story credited to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that things had improved in Nigeria from 2011 onward.

He added that governors decided that the excess crude money be shared because of the missing cash that was involved.

Amaechi said, “I was ashamed to read on the pages of newspapers, where the PDP said things had improved from 2011 till now. Oil price used to be between $120 and $145 before now. Our savings used to be between $45 and $46bn. We had over $10bn to $20bn in excess crude.

“The reason why the governors asked that excess crude be shared was that after each meeting we had, if the money was $10bn, before we come back for another meeting, it would be $8bn. Who has taken the $2bn? We did not know.

“When we discovered that our money was being taken away with reckless abandon without accounting, it was then we asked, ‘Oga, please share this money. You are not a bank. And if it were a bank, it would add more to the money.”

Amaechi urged members of the party in the state to go to their units and educate the people.

He asked the people to make sure that their votes count after voting, so that the PDP government would be voted out of power.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the President’s campaign team, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has stated that the President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation would continue to launch verbal attack on presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode vowed to expose the “atrocities” committed by Buhari when he was in power.

He said: “It is our intention to expose Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for what he really is, what he stands for and the great danger that his candidacy portends for the unity of the Nigerian state and the peace and well-being of the Nigerian people.

“We believe that it is a struggle between light and darkness. We believe that Gen. Buhari represents the darkness and that President Jonathan represents the light.

“We believe that Gen. Buhari represents a return to an ugly past which is best forgotten, while President Jonathan represents our hope for a greater and better future.

“We believe that the APC, on which platform Gen. Buhari is contesting the presidential election, represents everything that is unholy and unwholesome in our society and that the Peoples Democratic Party represents all that is decent and good.

“We believe that the much-vaunted ‘change’ campaign of Gen. Buhari represents nothing but a change from good to evil. If you want a positive change, you cannot expect to get it from a man like Gen. Buhari whose democratic credentials are questionable and whose record in public office is shameful and disastrous.

“Most people do not remember the atrocities that he committed when he was in power and it is our intention to document them and remind the Nigerian people about them.

“Most people have chosen to ignore the number of things that Gen. Buhari has said and the number of things that he has done over the last few months and years that have brought carnage, division and strife in our society and that prove that he is not the sort of person that can be trusted with power.

“It is our intention to bring those things to the attention of the Nigerian people so that they can make an informed choice.

Rescue officials find tail of missing AirAsia plane

The head of Indonesia’s search and rescue agency said Wednesday that the tail of AirAsia Flight 8501 had been spotted in the Java Sea, a development that could be significant because the plane’s so-called black boxes were contained there, The New York Timesreports.

“The tail section has been found and confirmed,” the official, Bambang Soelistyo, said at a news conference.

He said that the object was identified by sonar early Wednesday and that navy divers and a remote-controlled underwater vehicle had been deployed to confirm the discovery. The team took a photograph of what Soelistyo said was part of the tail, and it was broadcast on national television.

Flight 8501, an Airbus A320-200, crashed into the Java Sea on December 28 with 162 people aboard, less than an hour after taking off from the Indonesian city of Surabaya bound for Singapore.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, though weather has been cited as a likely factor, and officials hope that recovering the plane’s voice and flight data recorders, or black boxes, will shed light on what happened. Soelistyo said that with the tail now identified, the search would focus intently on retrieving the recorders from it.

Intermittent bad weather has slowed the process of identifying wreckage and recovering bodies. As of Wednesday, 40 bodies had been recovered, Soelistyo said. But he added that he expected many corpses would be found within the wreckage and that divers would be on standby to begin retrieving them as soon as more parts of the plane were located.

Though conditions were good enough Wednesday morning to allow divers to investigate the newly discovered wreckage, by afternoon the weather had worsened and stalled the search again. It also put on hold plans to retrieve the tail using cranes.

Doctors performed surgery and rejiggered his wrist with plates and screws, and then put it in a cast. 

The cast was removed last week and after eyeballing the results Drake's doctors told him he will never be able to play guitar again. Shredding is way too taxing for his limited mobility.

So Drake can still sing, but his act has always included a guitar, so now he's gotta hire someone and it may not be the same.

But Drake is still banking on a medical miracle, with the help of intensive physical therapy.

Two Bankers Remanded In Prison For Stealing LG Workers’ Salaries

An Akure Magistrate Court has remanded two bankers, Kasali Fajana and Ajayi Dauda, in prison custody for allegedly stealing the sum of N2.5 million meant for the salaries of workers in Akoko northwest local government area of Ondo State.

It was reported that Fajana and Dauda as well as others still at large are accused of committing the offence. 

A police prosecutor, Pelumi Adejuwon, told the magistrate court that the stolen fund was meant for the payment of local government workers’ salaries. Mr. Adejuwon said the accused persons stole the money after using stones and other tools to break the windscreen of a vehicle where the money was loaded. 

According to him, the alleged crime violated sections 6 (6) and 1 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision Act) Cap R 11 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The defense attorney to the accused persons, Oluwarotimi Daramola, urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms, assuring the presiding magistrate that the accused would not jump bail.

The police prosecutor objected to the application for bail, pleading with the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody to enable the prosecution to forward the case file to the Ministry of Justice for further legal advice.

In his ruling, Magistrate Sunday Adeduro ordered that the two accused persons be remanded in prison custody.

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Rivers, Tonye Princewill, has said that his administration would aim at making the state the Dubai of Africa if elected. Princewill stated this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. He added that he would achieve the objective with adequate security in place and in a peaceful environment. “My administration will work with security agencies to ensure adequate security in the state. “We will create a ring of steel in the state to make it impossible for trouble makers to penetrate. “My focus is to make Rivers like the Dubai of Africa and if we should achieve this, we will need peace and security,’’ he said.

Princewill also said his administration would adopt the carrot and stick approach to tackle security issues among youths in the state. “The carrot option is that if you are not pursuing a life of violence, here is an alternative and if you are pursuing violence in spite of the alternative, here are the consequences,” he said. “Unless you have the capacity to produce jobs, you cannot address the issues of security, and unless you can address the issues of security, you will not be able to create jobs.” According to Princewill, the most important thing for any administration is to have the capacity to produce jobs and demonstrate the will to do so, adding that his administration would adopt a collaborative approach and do an interagency relationship to address security issues.

If You Cannot Lie, Do Not Go Into Politics- Aliyu Babangida Niger state governor

Governor of Niger state, Aliyu Babangida says that one has to tell lies to survive in the political scene of today, adding that there is no morality in politics. He says if anyone wants to pursue morality, they should go and become Imams or Pastors. Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima has described the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau as a Lunatic who does not deserve any respect. Gov Shettima said this while speaking to state house correspondence after an emergency security meeting between the North Eastern governors, security chiefs and President Jonathan at the state house earlier today

"Shekau is a lunatic. He is a deranged element. He is not somebody anybody should give any molecule of respect. His actions are beneath the act of even an animal, believe me. I’m an eternal optimist and I am passionate too for that matter, that we shall have enduring peace very soon with the very robust frame work on ground.

 The governor said some areas in Borno state are partially in the control of Boko Haram but says he is optimistic that the state would surmount the challenges ‎

I really don’t want to bolster Boko Haram by quoting numbers and figures because these lunatics feast on the oxygen of publicity. The more publicity they get, the happier they become. I don’t want to give them that luxury. But I want to assure you that with 1,000 years of recorded history, Borno shall rise again in spite of all the challenges, believe me Insha Allah.” he said

Emir of Kano, Sanusi, denies planning to marry 17 year old girl

Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi has denied reports that he's planning to marry the 17 year old daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa. The Emir, who already has three wives, denied the report to Sahara Reporters via one of his aides.

The Emir said "that he fully supports the right of children not to get forcibly married before attaining the constitutionally stipulated age of 18 years" but he didn't rule out the possibility of marrying a fourth wife. He advised people to wait to see the real age of his wife if he decides to marry again.

Photos: Police gives families of missing police officers N500k each as compensation

Six families of policemen who were declared missing after Boko Haram attacked the Police Mobile Training College in Gwoza, Borno state on August 20th 2014 have been compensated with N500,000 each by the Force Headquarters.

At a ceremony which was held at the Police Mobile Force 50 Base, Kubwa Abuja, the wives of the missing soldiers were presented with cheques and the police promised to pay them the salaries of their missing husbands for one year. More photos below:
