Jonathan is running a trial-and-error government- Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, on Thursday stated that Nigeria cannot continue to operate under a government of trial and error.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Auchi-Jattu-Afashio-Ikabigbo road, he said the Peoples Democratic Party has begun a campaign of lies to deceive the people and further impoverish them since they have no record of performance to present to the people.
The Governor said “in the next couple of weeks, in fact the season is already here, politicians are already into marketing. Politicians are making deliberate efforts to remove the issues of development from political discourse. They prefer to discourse issue of ethnicity where you come from, where I come from. They prefer to buffet us with issues of religion, primordial sentiments and all kinds of ridiculous issues. But what you the electorate must insist on is that sixteen years after democracy, the learning curve is over.
“If you were doing apprentice and you have not gotten your freedom after sixteen years, your case is hopeless. If you were pursuing a university degree and after sixteen years, you could not obtain a degree you would be advised to withdraw. Sixteen years of democracy, we cannot continue to do trial and error governance.
“We must now approach governance on the basis of skills, competence and courage. We must have clarity of industrial policies that are not contradictory, policies designed to reduce and bring Nigeria back to work and give work to our young people. We must move away from the tradition where we engage in fraud in the name of Sure-P and give to individuals to share so that we might use them as thugs.
‘We must move away from empowering individuals to building institutions. When politicians come to ask you to vote for them like I was reading today where somebody said he was going to provide bursary to our students we must ask them when you were here for ten years, how many people did you give bursary to. Did you have primary schools in Auchi with red roofs?

“In the next few weeks, we will be commissioning a number of schools in Auchi and I will be doing so with much arrogance. This is because whatever they say is not possible, we have shown that it is possible. The previous government created an environment that would lead to a dynasty of the poor. Where the poor man gives birth to another poor, where the labourer gives birth to the labourer, because they disconnected the ladder of upward mobility.
“How can there be upward mobility if in my village there was no school. How could I have become a governor as the son of a cassava woman? The only ladder of upward mobility is that we must have quality education even in the remotest part of our community. But even in the heart of Benin City they dumped our children in classrooms without roofs. We had potholes in our classrooms and we had primary one and two competing for space”, he noted.
“We had teachers that were not paid for five months, they told us that Edo case is hopeless as it was a civil service state, that we are a cursed people, that we had no reason to benefit from derivations. They asked us to give up hope that it is our fault. Six years ago this state was always reported in the negative.
“But today we have proved that it is not how much you earn that determines the quality of life of your family; it is how responsibly you manage the little resource that accrue to you. There is no country in the planet that has all that is required to meet the greed of leaders who are detained by primitive culture of accumulation. We cannot be a country that is the largest in the continent, manipulating statistics and yet our people are dying in hunger”.
In a speech after commissioning the road, the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Saad Abubakar the 111 said whatever leaders want to do must be tied to the aspirations of the citizens.
The Sultan said “It is important for to organize people to continuously pray for the country, because prayer is the best weapon that we can deploy to face any problem confronting us. I did not know that the Governor is a road engineer, I thought he was a common labour leader in a textile factory, but he went straight and told us how roads were constructed.
“This goes to show the passion a leader must have to get things done and done rightly. Leaders must learn on how to lead right. The purpose of any leader is to see to spiritual and temporal development of the people. Seeing to the development of the people is more important than the use of force”.

Rita Ora’s outfit to BBC’s interview is causing a lot of controversy right now...

British singer Rita Ora went to BBC for an interview to promote BBC’s singing competition Voice UK, where she is the newest judge, and instead of giving positive publicity to the show, she received a lot of criticisms and negative publicity over the outfit she wore to the interview. There are reports that BBC has received over 400 complaints because of her outfit, she wore creme colored pants and a blazer jacket which had a plunging front, thereby revealing her ample bosom. One viewer wrote on BB’s points of view message board: “I do not want to see her boobs hanging out on a family program”. These and more comments made BBC issue an apology stating : “If we had been consulted we would have requested she wore something more suitable for 7 pm.”

I’m ready to die for Nigeria but not for any party – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday said he was willing to sacrifice his life in the interest of the country. He said this when the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party, Dr. Martins Onovo, paid him a visit at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun state. Obasanjo, however, said he would not sacrifice his life for any political party. “My first pre-occupation is what is best for Nigeria. Nigeria first, party second and any other thing, third. I can sacrifice anything in the interest of Nigeria and I can sacrifice my own life for Nigeria. “I can’t sacrifice my life for any party’s interest but I’ll sacrifice my life in the interest of Nigeria,” Obasanjo said. He also commended the founder of the NCP, Late Gani Fawehinmi, who he described as a veritable voice of conscience. Obasanjo said, “Let me hasten to wish you every success in your endeavour and also pay tribute, as I have done in my recent book, to the founder of your party, Gani Fawehinmi. I believe he was a genuine social critic. Though you may not agree with all he said or how he went about it but he was definitely a genuine social critic. “So if you, as the flag bearer of the party, believed that you should follow on his footsteps of integrity and genuine critical and committed analysis and criticism of the situation in the country, I think nobody will fault you.” He also urged the NCP to accept the outcome of the February 14 election as long as it is free, fair and credible, adding that people do not necessarily have to be in government before thay can contribute to the development of the country. “In this part of the world, we have a saying that if people sleep and they put their heads on the same pillow, they are in danger. That means there should be some people that should be critically looking and watching and also able to speak up. They should speak up, no matter what others may say.

Nigeria remain 43rd on January Fifa ranking

Nigeria remained unmoved at number 43 in the latest Fifa rankings for the month of January released on Thursday, Goal reports. The African champions were adjudged the same rank in the world according to the ranking released in December 2014. The Eagles are now the ninth-ranked African side behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Ghana, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Guinea and Senegal despite missing out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations billed for Equatorial Guinea. Algeria remain at the summit of African football with 948 points which put them in the 18th position in the world while Tunisia are second in Africa and ranked 22th in the world. Cote d’Ivoire stay third on the continent after amassing 833 points which places them in the 28th spot in the world.

There are 146 non-movers in the 209 teams. Bahrain have made the biggest gain thanks to wins over Saudi Arabia and Jordan, moving up 12 places to 110th in the process. The only teams to climb more than three places are Lebanon (122nd, up 4) and Vietnam (133rd, up 4), while the Faroe Islands have achieved their highest-ever position of 103rd since the ranking was introduced in 1993. The biggest fallers this month are Iraq (114th, down 11) and Jordan (93rd, down 12). More movement is to be expected in the February edition of the world ranking, which will take into account all of the results from the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and the AFC Asian Cup in Australia. The next Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 12 February 2015.

22 aggrieved PDP guber aspirants in Akwa Ibom defect to APC

Twenty two aggrieved governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, have defected from the party to All Progressives Congress, APC. The aggrieved aspirants under the aegis of G22 will meet the APC’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, December 12, 2015. According to reports, the 22 aggrieved aspirants decided to dump PDP for APC on Wednesday due to the controversial PDP primaries on Dec. 8, 2014 in the state. One of the aspirant who pleaded anonymity said they decided to leave the PDP over the insensitive way they were treated by the party in the state, adding that President Goodluck Jonathan could also not amicably resolve the crisis. He added that the crisis finally reached the peak on Jan. 6, 2015 when Jonathan after scheduling to meet with them later declined. “The President’s last minute decision was said to have been masterminded by a fifth columnist.

“It could be recalled that the (members of) the G22 have been in Abuja since December 9, 2014. Both the party leadership and the President are playing games with them without finding a political solution to the issues and without using the party’s mechanism to redress their complaints. “This inhuman treatment is only meted on G22. How could the President who has met with individuals like Senator (Musiliu) Obanikoro and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume not meet 22 aspirants of the party? Is the President saying that they do not count? Then let us see how the party will win in Akwa Ibom State,” the aspirant said. It would be recalled that the 22 aggrieved aspirants had protested on Dec. 8, 2014 against the governorship primaries in the state, alleging that it was not transparent and also accused the party of using a fake delegates’ list.

Jessica Chastain Reveals She Dropped Out of High School, but She's in Good Company:

Jessica Chastain has always aired on the conservative side when it comes to discussing her personal life, but in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, she shares an unknown fact from her past.
"Nobody knows this about me. I dropped out of high school," the 37-year-old actress reveals. "I was not a hard worker. I was a terrible student. Eventually I got my adult diploma, but I did not graduate. And it wasn't that I just dropped out and never went back—at the end of the year I had too many absences to graduate."
The two-time Oscar nominated actress was not your typical teen, "I would cut school and sit in my car, reading Shakespeare," she reveals, but her passion for acting never wavered, and after starring in a 1998 Bay Area production of Romeo & Juliet, she auditioned for the prestigious Julliard School in New York City and was accepted at age 22.
"I got to Juilliard and I'd never been around literature like that," she recalls. "It completely opened me up."
The funding for Chastain's tuition was famously provided thanks to a scholarship created by the late Robin Williams, whose "legacy" Chastain hopes to continue to honor.
As for the message she would like her fans to take away from her high school dropout story?
"I thought that I wasn't an intelligent person because I did so poorly," she explains. "There are kids out there that aren't doing well in school—and I hope they never think it means they're stupid. It's all about finding where your interest lies and finding what you're good at."

Shocking: check out how much prostitution contributes to uk economy.

How many prostitutes are there in the UK?  According to the Office of National Statistics the answer is60,879.  In figures due to be released next week this number is being used to add £5.314bn to the official size of the UK economy.  But the ONS only attempted to measure the number of female prostitutes.  If male prostitutes are included in the count then the contribution that prostitution makes to the UK economy rises to £8.856bn.
From the 30th of September the UK’s national accounts will attempt to measure illegal transactions to which all parties consent, including the sale of illegal drugs and prostitution.  Illegal transactions are difficult to measure because the participants, while willing, are anxious that their business goes unnoticed.  As a result there are very few obvious ways to directly measure illegal transactions and the ONS have been forced to rely on 10-year-old survey data in order to try and estimate the level of prostitution activity in the UK.
But there is a better way of measuring the number of prostitutes than using survey data.  While many of the activities associated with prostitution are illegal in the UK, paying for sex is actually legal and as a result, prostitution services are widely marketed on the web.  We can useImport.io to directly count the number of prostitutes who are marketing on the web and attempt a better estimate of the number of prostitutes in the UK.
The ONS used a study by the charity Eaves Housing For Womenpublished in 2004 as the basis of their estimation of the number of prostitutes in the UK.  The Eaves study tried to count all the female prostitutes in London over a 6 month period by telephoning every brothel and escort agency that they could find advertised.  There are two main problems with the ONS using the Eaves study in this way: Eaves only surveyed the sex industry in London and Eaves only surveyed women working in the sex industry.  We looked at each of these problems in turn.

But first, our choice of website

In order to do the work we built anextractor to the website AdultWork.  AdultWork is an online marketplace for adult service providers.  We chose to perform our analysis on AdultWork because AdultWork is much more popular relative to other similar websites.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/adultwork.com

Problem 1: London only (not a problem)

The ONS used population figures for London and the UK to extrapolate out from the Eaves estimate of the number of prostitutes in London to an estimate of the number of prostitutes in the UK.  The first thing that we did was to test the validity of this extrapolation.  We used our extractor to pull down the AdultWork profiles of all the adult service providers in the UK who offer escorting.  We then divided the profiles into two groups: those from London and those from the rest of the UK and compared the ratio against current population statistics for London and the UK.  The prostitution ratio matched the population ratio.  Our data support the validity of the extrapolation from the number of prostitutes in London to the number of prostitutes in the UK.  The fact that the Eaves study only surveyed the sex industry in London is not a problem.

Problem 2: Women only (big problem)

The Eaves study is quite clear in stating that “no information is included regarding men working in the sex industry”.  This means that any estimate that the ONS makes of the number of prostitutes in the UK is only an estimate of the number of female prostitutes.  We used the same set of AdultWork profiles to see how much of a difference including men would make to the total number of prostitutes.  When we counted the number of male and female service providers on AdultWork it turns out that 42% of them are male.  This is not a small proportion.  The fact that the Eaves study only surveyed women working in the sex industry is a major problem.

What's the impact?

If 42% of prostitutes are men and there are 60,879 female prostitutes then we would estimate that there are 44,085 male prostitutes and that the total number of prostitutes in the UK is 104,964.  If you use this number in the ONS calculation for the amount that prostitution contributes to the UK economy then you get £8.856bn (0.6% GDP) rather than £5.314bn (0.4% GDP).  A difference of £3.542bn (0.2% GDP).
Using web data for this kind of economic analysis has two main benefits.  It means that our measures can be up to date, even close to real time and that our measures can be more complete and less reliant on scaling assumptions.

1 Month after Revealing His HIV Status, Kehinde Bademosi Comes Out As Gay

Last month on World AIDS Days, Orange Academy founder Kehinde Bademosi took a huge step by revealing that he was diagnosed with HIV in 1999 (click here if you missed it)
Today he has again made another bold step by sharing with the world his sexual orientation.
In a long post on his personal Facebook page, he reveals that even though he has an ex-wife he has never had a ‘thing’ for women.
Read his story below:
When I first told my ex-wife that I was gay, we were far from being married. I wanted her to find other men honorably, who had a thing for women. I never did. I ‘swear down.’ I was only obeying the popular demand of traditions. Now, this was my terrible mistake. No one should live their life based on dogmas and other people’s expectations. As far as I could remember, even though I was always dating girls, I had always preferred being with a man. I had fought it with every fiber of spirituality in me as a Pentecostal preacher boy (find details and journeys in my book ‘THE EXODUS.’) The more I fought my sexual preference for men, the more I became more miserable. Unfortunately, as erroneously believed, sex wasn’t the problem. I had been having sex with women as far back as a twelve-year-old. Sexuality is whom we are emotionally present with, not whom we are sleeping with. And oh boy, she really tried to make me a heterosexual. But I’m still not, sadly.
One of those pre-marriage days, while we were with our marriage counseling team, I brought up the issue again – that I had always had a preference for men. I wanted the Ministers to dissuade her from the marriage. I just couldn’t put a ring on a fat big lie. My father taught me one principle: DIE FOR YOUR OWN TRUTH, EVEN IF IT’S UNPOPULAR, BUT DON’T HARM OTHERS WITH IT. She was so happy to tell the ministers, as quickly as she could, that my feelings for men would all be gone, because she believed it was a childhood disorder. I guess she meant she was going to fck my brains into heterosexuality. This is a mistake a lot of us make. We all want to change people to conform to our preferences. We find it easier to play god in the lives of people we did not make.
After six years together, I knew I was not getting any better. I STILL LOVED MEN. And one day, because I didn’t want to cheat on her, I humbly asked her that we should go our separate ways. That was when all hell broke loose. She suddenly forgot about how it all started. In court, she told the Judge how she suddenly found out that I was gay, and how it’s against the Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In other words, she wanted me sentenced to the new 14 years jail term served by the Nigerian government. Luckily, I was in a civil court. Sadly, that day, I had to duck my face in shame as the crowd jeered at me for being whom I had always been. ‘You faggot’ ‘Oh what a shameful man!’ ‘homo!’ ‘Na wa o ‘ I still don’t know how I walked out of the court premises that day. ( this case is still ongoing) What about my business.? Tell any client in Nigeria that you are gay, and you lose their business. That’s exactly what happened. I lost friends, businesses, sponsorships and family members. I had to start my life all again. Applied for a new job. Get back to school. Although my ex-wife is one of the most faithful and beautiful women in Nigeria, she is a victim of institutionalized homophobia. Just like many people who are reading this.
It will be exactly a year today, when Nigeria instituted a law to jail people like me. What’s our offense? Because we are simply wired differently. There are only about 5 to 10% of homosexuals in every population as cited by popular findings and documents. Why is a 90% dominant population afraid of its 10%? Shouldn’t you care about us? Don’t you think it’s a lot easier to be seen as part of the 90%? And before you throw those religious verses on us for being wired differently, I want to leave you with my favorite Bible verses from Romans 8:Italics mine:
That Nothing Can Separate Us from ( the universal narrative of ) God’s Love 31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son ( in the popular narratives according to the Christian Faith ) but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one…
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in ( in the narrative of ) Christ Jesus our Lord.
